Bounding Main is a costumed vocal group that sings richly harmonic versions of traditional maritime songs. Their shows are filled with spirit, humor and harmony; their arrangements of traditional nautical music bring the listener into the world of pirates, adventure and romance.
David HB Drake has been called “a gentle troubadour” and “elemental folksinger”. His music is inspired by his voyages across Midwestern prairies and the waters of the Great Lakes. Living his dream, David served as shanty man on the movie tall ship “HMS Bounty”. David has been both performer and crewman aboard the environmental ship “Clearwater.” He currently serves as musical shantyman / historian / on-board educator for the Wisconsin flagship “Denis Sullivan” and Pier Wisconsin Maritime Center.
Lee Murdock has uncovered a boundless body of music and stories in the Great Lakes. There is an amazing timelessness in this music. Great Lakes songs are made of hard word, hard living, ships that go down and ships that come in. The music is grounded in the work song tradition, from the rugged days of lumberjacks and wooden sailing schooners. With a deeper understanding of the folk process, Lee’s repertoire combines historical research and contemporary insights.
Tom Kastle is a singer, songwriter, tall ship captain, and teller of tales based in the Great Lakes who has traveled the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and the Pacific. He toured as half of Tom & Chris Kastle for two decades, producing a dozen recordings and a soundtrack for PBS. He has one foot in as a singer/songwriter and the other firmly planted in the traditional maritime folk music world.
